2021 CADASTRAL SURVEY OF THE YEAR

GOLD - WALLY SANFORD, LANDPRO LIMITED (SO 486878)
A Crown subdivision of the 8,800 Ha Omarama Pastoral Lease (Omarama Station) to facilitate the creation of Freehold land, reserves, conservation covenants, marginal strips, access easements and hydro parcels. Survey works required field investigations into definition at various locations around the 48km perimeter. Definition was predominately from plans dating from 1915. The job involved an elevation range of around 1150m and spanned around 15km by 10 km across it's length and breadth. Around 53km was surveyed for covenant and section boundaries and around 44km of access tracks were surveyed to create public access across the station.

SILVER - NICK TAYLOR, CUTTRISS CONSULTANTS LIMITED (DP 547240)
The purpose of this survey was to give effect to the first stage of a 7-lot rural subdivision at Akatarawa Road, Upper Hutt. The site features challenging topography of heavily forested areas with a rise of approximately 300m from the western boundary to the highest point along the eastern boundary. A large gully runs eat to west across the site. Conventional (Total Station and GNSS) and innovative (RPAS/Drone) solutions were employed for the survey.

BRONZE - SIMON REID, CKL LIMITED (LTs 533290 & 550385)
Engaged by Vector to protect their rights over the Penrose-Hobson Tunnel in Auckland, by way of 3 dimensional easements. The tunnel is approximately 9.5km in length and runs from the Penrose Substation beneath motorway, private land and local roads, to the City Centre terminating at the Hobson Substation. The survey involved the creation of complex 3D easement parcels calculated from horizontal and vertical curves.

    2015

GOLD TONY NIKKEL - DP 461455
A land transfer survey to complete a large boundary adjustment involving very old survey work, poor definition information, large miscloses, errors in underlying work and in difficult hilly terrain covered mostly in bush.
The Judging panel believed this survey stood out due to it being an exceptional example of good survey practice, with thorough reporting and excellent attention to detail.

SILVER - BRIAN CURTIS, SO 460481
A complex and innovative three-dimensional legalisation survey of the replacement Newmarket Viaduct; comprising over 200 parcels with inclined air space parcels and a subterranean tubular easement.
The Judging panel rated this survey highly due to its high complexity and innovative use of technology.

BRONZE - STUART WALLACE AND TONY NIKKEL, DP 466668
A land transfer survey to remove limitations from a limited title that had one boundary, in particular, that was significantly incorrectly represented in Landonline.
The Judging panel believed this survey was carried out using exceptional investigation, research and innovation to determine the water boundary location. They were also impressed with the good survey practice, thorough reporting and excellent communication with LINZ.
