The National School of Surveying is seeking to recruit two new members for its surveying and spatial science technical support team; one Senior Technical Officer and one Technical Officer (the Technical Officer role is currently advertising as a separate role with reference number 1900953 on our current vacancies page). Otago has an important role in New Zealand as the only university offering professional level Surveying education and our Technical Officers work together with staff and students to ensure excellent educational outcomes.
The role
In the role of Senior Technical Officer, you will support both academic programmes and research undertaken by the School's academic staff and students. You will also:
Participate in the planning, management and delivery of field based practical exercises, including work off campus and outside Dunedin.
Be responsible for the efficient management and maintenance of technical equipment used for both teaching and research.
Your skills and experience
Experience with modern surveying equipment, software applications and related specialist technology, including data/communication interfacing.
Experience with survey and spatial science data processing.
Experience with Health and Safety relevant to field survey activities.
Experience working with students in a teaching or other leadership role is preferred.
Qualification relevant to Surveying (BSurv, BSc (Survey Measurement), NZCLS, NZ Diploma in Surveying) as well as industry work experience.
Relevant traffic management qualification(s).
Field-based first aid certificate.
Current driver's license.
Experience in the supervision and mentoring of junior staff members.
