New Surveyor-General Appointed
Anselm Haanen, long-term member of S+SNZ, has been appointed to the position of Surveyor-General for New Zealand.
Anselm is a licensed cadastral surveyor and holds a Master of Surveying from Otago University. He has a long history in land administration and during his time with LINZ has held a number of important advisory roles focussing on geographic information and the cadastral survey system. He was appointed to the role of Deputy Surveyor-General in 2006 and has been Acting Surveyor-General since August 2018.
Anselm will lead the team responsible for overseeing key systems including the cadastral survey system and will fulfil the statutory functions set out in the Cadastral Survey Act 2002. He will also serve as Chair of the New Zealand Geographic Board and as a member of the Cadastral Surveyors Licensing Board. The Surveyor-General also serves on the Representation Commission which determines electoral boundaries for the purposes of the Electoral Act 1993.
